New Years in Auckland was definitely a lot different than what we do back home. I mean, we all go out drink and party, but since it's summer here.. the dynamic is different. Most people do everything they can to leave Auckland and go away to beach towns. No one really wants to spend their holidays in the city. It was totally natural to me, since it's cold for new years back home, and we go out to the city to party. No one goes running off to beach towns, we stay inside to keep warm. My friend Sarah had invited me out with her friends, and I had an absolute blast!
Lovely Sarah. This was at the very beginning of the night.
Sarah's friends. We were in a friends apartment to pre-drink before going out. It was right in the city and people were outside of their balconys shouting happy new year to everyone.
Just having a few drinks. I got beer.
Just before we all left. We didn't go out until 11:30. The clubs are open till about 5-6am, so people don't really bother going out much earlier than that.
At midnight, they had fireworks from the skytower. The streets were packed with people. It was so warm and the atmosphere was amazing. One of the biggest streets in Auckland is Queen St. They had it blocked off to cars all night so people could just roam around and dance in the streets.
Enjoying the evening :)
This was hilarious. It was about 3:30am and this random giant dance party just broke out in the middle of an intersection.
