This is a little random collection of pictures that don't really fit anywhere. I thought you all might enjoy them. BUT BE EXCITED.. I am going to Queenstown for a week, and I'll be travelling around the South Island, so that means, more blog entries and a lot more pictures! I am very excited.
Where I am living right now (at Julies) she has a dog and cat. This is Hedley. He's this big goofy dog, and I adore him.
Right outside Auckland, they have "Sheep World" Apparantly they thought they would bring in Business by spray painting the front sheep bright pink. Well, it definitely caught our attention and we turned around just to go take some pictures. It was hilarious.
Ok. For any of you that watches "Departures" When Scott and Justin went to New Zealand, Scott was raving about theses meat pie things. So, Mom told me I had to try them, and I did. I can see what he was raving about. Delicious.
Sorcha showing off her Irish dancing skills. She was excellent.
Alexi teaching Roisin how to tap dance. We were all laughing so hard. Good night.
Going to the Waitomo Caves was the last thing I was able to do before I came back to Auckland. I don't have any pictures of them, because you aren't allowed to take pictures inside the caves. The cave we went into was the glow worm cave. You start by walking to the cave, and it's all limestone and beautiful. It's amazing to see what thousands of years of water can do to shape the limestone. After walking through the caves, we went down to the underground river. We went into a boat and it was pitch black except for thousands of glow worms on the ceiling that were glowing bright green. It was pretty amazing to see, and I really wish I could have taken pictures.
If you want to check it out more, just google search "Waitomo glow worm caves"
This post should have been made before my "Hahei Heaven" one, but I don't know why I didnt make it.. This is a little baby post about this walk we went on to get to Cathedral Cove. It's also in the Coromandel Peninsula. It was this nice, very secluded beach with his giant archway that was created after thousands of years of erosion.
That is the "cathedral" A bunch of rocks had just recently fallin from the top, so a part of it you couldn't walk under.
New Zealand is just full of empty beaches.
It wasn't the nicest day out, and it was getting to be evening, but it was still lovely.
Hello to whoever reads this! I am really sorry for my lack of posts, but I haven't had anything to post about.. As I mentioned, I have bronchitis, and have been in Auckland trying to get better. I am slowly getting better. Antibiotics 3 times a day and plenty of rest. I was lucky enough to stay with Jaimee and her family who were wonderful. I am now staying about 3 houses down with their friend Julie and her daughter. Staying here I get my own room and big bed. It's quite lovely. Im living in a little Auckland suburb, and kinda sorta feeling like a real kiwi person. One question is on my mind though, do I go back on the roadtrip and risk getting sick again, cause lately my immune system has really been letting me down, or stay here and work for a month and then travel. So many decisions to make, and as most of you know, I hate making decisions. I'm a very big "I don't know" person, BUT, it's time to get away from that. I've got a few days to really reflect on what I want to be doing with my time right now, and really figure out what will make me happy.
I just wanted to point out that Kiwi people are incredibly friendly and this place is beautiful. I have been writing in a journal everyday and it's rather funny to see how my mood changes day by day.
This is the lovely house I am staying in. It's on a street called Windsong. The window on the most left is my bedroom. It gets lots of light and is quite large. It's a gorgeous house inside and out.
S0 this is hot water beach in Hahei, which is in Coromandel Peninsula. When you dig under the sand, there is hot water which people make little hot tubs out of. It was glorious, but our water was so hot, so we mixed pools with a lovely Dutch family cause their water was getting a bit too cold.
Aahh, glorious! However, how as soon as the sand shifted, boiling hot water would come up and burn me! I was constantly moving around to avoid getting burned, but over all it was very relaxing.
I apologize for the lack of posts. I am SO sick right now. It's actually horrible. I'm going to the doctors tomorrow, so I hope I am ok. I have tons more to post when I get the time. Miss and love everyone so much!
Drove on a 90 mile beach. Well, I did that yesterday. It was actually a highway, which was a beach. Ocean right beside you. It was also in the Northern tip of New Zealand. I couldn't stop looking out the window. NZ, you amaze me!
Hoollleeerrrr ma naammeee!
Empty. The only thing you came across was buses and cars zooming past you. It was bizzare!
The ocean. Such crashing waves. LoveloveLOVE.
ps. I kinda miss home still. Much love everyone. Miss you all.
So, we drove the most nothern tip of New Zealand you can get to. Called Cape Reinga. It was warm and the views are amazing. I don't think I can get tired of the views in New Zealand. Everywhere you look there are more views to see. I have a lot more pictures than this of the Cape, but blogger is being funny right now, but I really want to share these with everyone.
The light house which marks the tip, and the city signs.
A long way from home...
Gorgeous, so gorgeous. The Tasman sea and Pacific Ocean meet in this spot and create amazing waves and whirlpools.
More spectacular views of the cape, and the killer sand dunes.
So this was the first campsite that Nadine, Inge and I stayed at. It was $7 and so beautiful. When you looked 1 way, there was rolling green hills, and when you looked the other way, there was a sandy beach and the ocean. We are sleeping in a tent, and the car. It's not that comfy, but hey, it does the job. That's Inge, sitting on our bed. Her and I sleep in the back of the car.
The tent that Nadine sleeps in. Supposed to be 2 person, but it pretty much can only fit her.
The lovely beach about 2 steps away. It was empty.
Our cute little car/home and the rolling hills.
This was in a town called Wakanini. There was no cell phone service. :(
So I'm sure you're all wondering what my little hostel looks like. So I thought I would take some pictures. Now don't laugh, or make fun.. cause it's really messy, but hey, it's pretty cheap!
That is my bed. With the striped purse. It's not as messy as some of the other girls room, but I have all of my products on the window.
This the jam packed fridge. None of my food is in there. It can barely close.
Our teeny tiny little kitchen, but it works.
Our little living room and some of my friends. Lots of funny converstations have taken place right there. From the L-R, a dutch girl I can't remember the name of, Nadine from London, another british girl I can't remember the name of, and Inge from Holland.
So this is only my home for 1 more day. It wasn't the best place to stay, but I made some great friends there!
Well I do apparantly. Today I joined this group hike with some friends to climb a volcano called Rangitoto. We took a 30 min ferry ride to get there, the weather was amazing. It was hot and sunny and the water was crystal clear. Such amazing views! I an finally adding pictures which I hope you all enjoy!
Ahh, there I am on the ferry. It was gorgeous. I was way to hot just wearing that tank top, (which some lovely ladies snuck in my bag) It was so nice to get out of Auckland city!
This is a town called Davenport that you need to take a 5 min ferry ride to get to. It was very cute. I love the water, beach, town and then green hill, which is also a volcano.
THE TOP! I was cursing that hike the entire time. I really didn't expect it to be so hard, but man, the views were so worth it.
Me at the top! I was so tired, but once again, the view was so amazing, and so worth the long hot treck!
We went down into the lava caves. It was cold and wet and the floor was so uneven and rocky. At one point we were crouched down and crawling through the cave. It was pitch black and people kept taking pictures so they could get light. It was really neat.
This is the Auckland skyline and harbour. Take note of the skytower, which you can bungee from. Today I learned Auckland is the 3rd largest city in the world. Did not know that.
Except not. It's been raining all damn day. Still rather warm though. According to the kiwis, the weather is improving, so this is good news. I have tons of summer clothes with me, and I really hope to be able to use them! So I'm sitting in a coffee shop right now (yay for free wifi) and there are birds flying around in it, and no one cares. It's rather odd. I leave in 3 days for my road trip across NZ with Inge and Nadine. I'm so happy to be getting out of Auckland for a month, but then I'm flying right back here from Christchurch to meet up with Erin and spend Christmas with Jaimee's family. (She is an Auckland native) Speaking of Christmas, seeing all the decorations around the shops is making me really sad. First Christmas away from home, I know it's going to be really sad, and I'm sure I will bawl when I call home, but oh well.. it is only 1 Christmas.
I am sorry I still have no pictures to offer. I will soon, but so far there hasnt really been much to photograph. But after the roadtrip there will be tons! Well, another post done, I have some online banking to do. YAY!
ps. NZ number is +642 180 8685. I'm not really sure how you call it, but please do, and please text me! MUCH LOVE.
So. Day 2 in New Zealand. I must admit, yesterday was pretty horrible. I was so home sick and kept asking myself, "what the hell am I doing here?" I cried a lot and wandered the streets of Auckland. Speaking on Auckland, I can't say I'm too fond of this city. It's very much like Vancouver, and I'm staying off a street that is very much like Robson. Tons of shops filled with beautiful clothes and shoes that I cannot buy. Thankfully, last night I met some lovely girls that are staying in my dorm room, and now I am sitting here planning a month long road trip with 2 of them. It's crazy how a couple hours can change so much! I now have a cell phone, which I can't remember the number of right now :) Overall, I really want to get out of this giant city. I really want to see the country and all the beautiful views, sunsets and sunrises. The people are very friendly though, which is nice. I've already been invited to stay with this girl Jaimee and her family for a while.
So I miss you all so much. I can tell it's going for be hard for a little while still, but I must push through.
